Japanese floating inks and the art of the brush
An exploration of Sumi-e brush and ink.
Develop sensitivity and increase your observation of mark making and pattern, contrast and variation of tone.
Explore colour mixing and enjoy the simplicity and satisfaction of marbling with floating inks on beautiful handmade papers.
Working with natures inspiration on a variety of Asian handmade papers we will :
- Prepare Sumi-e ink and learn the basics of how to work with calligraphy brushes to create your own sumi-e paintings using Australian native plants for inspiration.
- Learn the tools and techniques of Japanese floating inks - Suminagashi
- Decorate a variety of papers including Handmade Japanese and Korean papers
No previous experience is necessary. A list of class requirements will be provided.

Paper Figure Sculpture
3 x 2 hr Workshops Suitable for all ages and abilities
Enjoy the texture and possibilities of paper as you sculpt with freshly made sheets of handmade cotton rag paper.
Make a date with your inner artist and let your imagination come alive while you discover a new material and create with paper.
You will receive guidance and support to tap into your creativity and work with new techniques.
All materials will be supplied to create your 30cm figure on a base including face moulds.
Figures will be painted and sealed with acrylic medium after drying.
